Peter Haynes is a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington DC think tank, and co-founder of Polyverse Corporation, a cybersecurity company. He is also a member of the Board of Advisors at Votem Corporation, an online-voting startup. Mr Haynes was previously Senior Director, Advanced Strategies and Research at Microsoft Corporation. His focus is on long-term strategy and policy in areas such as cybersecurity, privacy, big data, the internet of things, and the economic impact of emerging technologies.
Mr Haynes has provided expert advice to governments, policymakers and industry, working with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, US State Department, National Security Agency, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, European Union Parliament and Directorates, Bilderberg Group, and World Economic Forum, among others.
For 12 years until the late 1990s, Mr Haynes was a full-time correspondent and editor at The Economist, where he served as its US Business Editor and New York Bureau Chief; he still writes for the magazine. He has broadcast for the BBC and NPR, and co-founded Oxford Economic Research Associates, a leading European consultancy.
Mr Haynes was educated at Keble College, Oxford.
