Meeting between the IIC Italian Chapter and the KCSC

INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF COMMUNICATIONS
Italy CHAPTER EVENT

3 april 2017
HOSTED BY AGCOM

The IIC Italian Chapter met with a delegation of the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) in Rome, last April 3rd.

The meeting took place at the offices of the Italian regulator, Agcom, and saw the participation of Augusto Preta, president of the IIC Italian Chapter, and the representatives of KCSC, KIM Sung-Mook (Vice-chairperson), KIM Hyung-Sung (Director, Broadcasting Review Planning Division), KIM So-Young (Director Broadcasting Review Planning Division) and PARK So-Young (Assistant Manager, Public Relations Division). Professor Angelo Cardani, President of Agcom, greeted the delegation.

Augusto Preta described the activities and initiatives of the Institute and the work of the Italian Chapter at the national and international level and the Korean delegation presented their authority. They have a single regulatory authority for broadcasting and telecommunications sectors established in 2008 to respond to the need to integrate regulatory bodies for broadcasting and telecommunications in keeping with the trends of media convergence and to face the challenges of the regulatory framework.

The discussion analyzed several aspects regarding the role of national authorities and the most effective regulatory framework to apply. The two parties also shared their views on the need to regulate new and different types of media and the measures to adopt in relation to juvenile protection which have become all the more important but which can also be seen to interfere with certain self-regulatory systems in the media industry.

The IIC Secretariat and Tim Cowen, a Board Director of the Institute, had previoulsy met with members of the Commission and this meeting further cemented the agreement to develop future initiatives and new possibilities of cooperation.
