Telecommunications & Media Forum
13-14 FEBRUARY 2019, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
Following 2018’s very successful visit to Singapore, we returned to Asia in 2019, to Kuala Lumpur. The Telecommunications & Media Forum (TMF) on 13-14 February followed the Regional Regulators’ Forum (RRF) on 12 February 2019, hosted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
With a population of around 4.5 billion, and combined nominal GDP of c. US$28.2 trillion, the Asia region is an area undergoing rapid change and technological development. It is culturally and politically diverse, presenting rich opportunities for the TMT sector to help drive economic and societal benefit. The policy and regulatory considerations are complex and varied and the IIC is ideally positioned to enable fruitful discussion between all parties.
The TMF brought together experts from the region and beyond, from the regulatory sphere, government, academia and civil society, to discuss themes of regional and global significance. The 2018 event was themed “Accelerating digital transformation in Asia: building the policy/regulatory skillsets and capacity for the 21st Century so that everyone benefits”. The 2019 edition expanded on these themes, drawing upon the considerable expertise of IIC members active in the region, as well as our wider international community.
Forum presentations were on the record but subsequent discussions were under the Chatham House Rule. This enabled participants to speak freely, facilitating the open and honest exchange of information, and maximising opportunities for the sharing of best practice among peers.
