Wilhelm Eschweiler (Dr)
Vice President, BNetzA; BEREC Chair 2016
Dr Wilhelm Eschweiler, Vice President, Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunication, Post and Railway (BNetzA), was appointed one of two Vice Presidents of Bundesnetzagentur on 1 May 2014. His responsibilities include telecommunications and rail.
Prior to this. Dr Eschweiler was responsible for European ICT Policy in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, where he served as Head of Unit (2007-April 2014) and Head of Unit for International Telecoms and Postal Services Policy (2002-2006).
Dr Eschweiler has also been Advisor in the unit for regulatory policy (1998-2002); Advisor to the Federal Minister Dr. Wolfgang Bötsch (1995-1997); Mandatory secondment, European Commission, Brussels (Directorate General for Information Society and Media, now DG Connect) (1994); Federal Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (Legal Advisor) (1992).
Dr Eschweiler will be IRG/BEREC Chair 2016 currently being a Vice-Chair to Fatima Barros (ANACOM). As incoming Chair he is responsible for all administrative issues related to the BEREC Office in Riga.
Dr Eschweiler obtained a 1 and 2 state exam in Law from the Universität Bonn, and has spent 2 terms abroad at Université de Lausanne, studying a doctorate with Prof. Dr jur Günter Kohlmann in 1993.
