Innovation, investment incentives and internet governance: Policy and regulatory decision making in the emerging and developed American markets.
The IIC is honoured to have facilitated such a successful and stimulating Forum in Miami in May, with over 20 countries from Central and Southern America and the Caribbean represented at a very senior level. Delegates and speakers alike enthused about the unique format of the IIC’s events which enabled information sharing, open debate and informal but very senior level networking in equal measure. Simultaneous translation ensured that there was no shortage of questions and comment from the floor – voices from Ecuador, Paraguay, St Lucia, Bahamas, Costa Rica and Nicaragua were heard alongside the bigger players including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Jamaica, Chile and Peru. The objective of the Forum was to spotlight the growth opportunities in these markets but first and foremost give voice to the complex policy and regulatory issues facing those in the converging communications industries – and there is no doubt that this was achieved.
KEY DISCUSSION THEMES
Policy and regulatory choices for sustained investment and innovation at the network, service and applications level
Regulating for growth: building regulatory solutions that are fit for purpose in emerging and developing economies. How are tax and trade policies impacting sustainable investment in the communications sectors across the region?
