HE Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai
President, Communications Regulatory Authority of Qatar (CRA)
Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai has over 20 years' experience and a proven record of success in developing and executing communications regulatory frameworks, telecommunications technologies, network planning, administration and rollout. He has served to develop and promote a safe, robust and innovative network framework in the State of Qatar. His career has evolved from operations management to being a business leader driving national level policies and industry strategies.
Under his leadership the CRA has made great strides in organisational development, creation of conditions conducive to competition, and in developing a comprehensive framework to protect consumers from unfair practices. Mr Al-Mannai has been instrumental in the development of new regulations, strategies and framework for the postal sector and access to digital media, the two new mandates given to the CRA.
Prior to his appointment with the CRA, Mr Al-Mannai served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar National Broadband Network (Qnbn), and led Qnbn to make significant progress towards roll-out of its high-speed, fibre optic broadband infrastructure. Prior to Qnbn, Mr Al-Mannai served as Senior Director for the network rollout at Oordeoo (formerly Qtel), and was responsible for the design and implementation of both fixed and wireless networks.
Since 2010, Mr Al-Mannai has served on the board of the Al Jazeera Network and was appointed board member of Maldives operator before joining Qnbn.
Mr Al-Mannai holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics from the American University in Cairo, and has numerous professional management and leadership diplomas from institutions including IMD, INSEAD and the Carnegie Bosch Institute.
