Adriana Labardini Inzunza

Commissioner, IFT - Federal Institute of Telecommunications, Mexico

Adriana Labardini Inzunza

Commissioner Labardini has served as Commissioner at the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, the Mexican independent regulatory body and competition authority for telecoms and broadcasting industries, for the last four years.

In this capacity, Commissioner Labardini has led efforts to create a research centre within IFT, strengthen regional and international cooperation among regulators, has fought for pluralism in media, inclusion and accessibility, worked to increase transparency and independence in decision making processes and a long term approach in the defence of the public interest. She has pushed for initiatives to bridge the digital divide, promote connectivity and local and indigenous media in rural areas and indigenous communities, innovation, consumer empowerment, gender equality and effective implementation of regulation.

Commissioner Labardini served as Secretary of the Board and practiced law, specialising in the areas of corporate, administrative and telecommunications law. Upon her return to Mexico after completing the H. Humphrey Fellowship in North Carolina, she co-founded Alconsumidor, a nonprofit watchdog, in advocating for consumer rights and consumer class actions – a project that ended in constitutional and legal reform.

Commissioner Labardini has a Master's degree in law from Columbia University, New York. She was external professor at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching and is a former Fulbright scholar and social entrepreneur in Ashoka.
