Sharing of Abhorrent Violent Material Bill passes Australian Parliament following New Zealand terrorist attack
The Criminal Code Amendment (Sharing of Abhorrent Violent Material) Bill 2019, which criminalises internet companies that don’t move fast to remove ‘abhorrent’ video and images passed the Australian Parliament, Thursday 4th April 2019. Two offences are created under the law including an obligation to report abhorrent violent material to the Australian Federal Policy and the second relates to failure to remove or cease hosting violent material.
