Thailand should focus on digital economy, says Internet Society director

Thailand needs to upgrade the National Broadcasting and Telecom Commission (NBTC) to focus more on coordinating various elements of the digital economy and society, says Rajnesh Singh, director for Asia-Pacific of the Internet Society, as the Nation reports. “Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority is an example, he said. The agency both develops and regulates the island republic’s converging ICT and media sectors in a holistic fashion to create a dynamic and vibrant ecosystem for new players as well as consumers. In the case of Thailand, the NBTC’s role is more like a regulator.” A high-level coordination group is required to ensure maximum benefits for the convergence of these industries using ICT and media technology.
