Brazil regulates on disabled access
Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has approved a regulation to ensure access to telecoms services and equipment for people with hearing, visual, motor and cognitive disabilities on an equal basis with others, both in urban and rural areas, notes Telecom Paper. "The General Regulations for Accessibility to Telecommunications Services of Collective Interest will benefit some 45.6 million Brazilians who declared a disability, according to the census of 2010. It will also bring benefits to the elderly, who tend to have deficiencies at some point. Among the new rules are the expansion of features and facilities in the equipment used for telecoms and the implementation of improvements in the service. Companies should, for example, provide accessible internet pages and interaction mechanisms such as email, web chat and video calls." Read More
