Tunisia updates regulatory priorities

Tunisia updates regulatory priorities

The Tunisian telecom authority INT (Instance Nationale des Telecommunications) has published a summary of its main priorities for 2018, which include a number of new initiatives alongside its ongoing activities in the areas of consumer protection, quality of service, and regulation of wholesale broadband offers, notes Telecompaper. “The regulator will launch a consultation on the topic of taxation in the telecoms sector, with the aim to assess the impact of fiscal policies on future investment. To this end, a study was commissioned that will form the basis of the consultation. A similar approach will be followed to seek stakeholders’ view on a regulatory framework for the internet of things.” Among the new initiatives, an emergency number (112) will be set up to centralise all emergency calls into a single service, operational 24/7 across Tunisia. The regulator will host its first international conference in mid-March and will publish a market analysis of telecoms services in the second half of the year. Other projects include the evaluation of measures to facilitate m-payment offers for consumers, and the expansion of the range of indicators published on the ICT sector. Read more
