EU audiovisual regulator group makes plans

During its recent plenary meeting in Brussels the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA) adopted its report on accessibility, established its work programme for 2017 and re-elected Madeleine de Cock Buning (Netherlands) as chair, with Damir Hajduk (Croatia) and Luboš Kukliš (Slovakia) as vice-chairs. ERGA recommends further research on the accessibility of audiovisual media services to disabled people, and says the protection of minors against harmful content will continue to be an important topic. Connected to this, the topics of self-and co-regulation will be on the agenda for 2017. “Codes of conduct will obviously play an important role in the future proof protection of minors, but also in other fields… ERGA will align requirements of excellence for self-and co-regulation arrangements within the EU.” Next year EGA is also launching an academic group and will be upgrading its digital European toolkit, which was launched in 2016 to share best practices among regulators.
