European regulators body publishes plan for 2019/20

Joint IIC - Italian Chapter and Agcom workshop

BEREC, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications, has released a number of documents and consultations, including its “highly anticipated” opinion on the EU net neutrality regulation and guidelines. According to BEREC chair Johannes Gungl, the application of both the regulation and guidelines is working well. BEREC also initiated a public consultation, which is open until 18 January 2019, on a draft BEREC common position on mobile infrastructure sharing. It provides definitions for several types of sharing agreements, as well as the main objectives to be pursued when considering infrastructure-sharing agreements. BEREC has also published a draft report on termination of contracts and switching of provider, which is open for public consultation until 18 January 2019. Also out for consultation are reports on access to infrastructure in market analyses and on a set of indicators to measure the internet of things. In its work programme for 2019 and 2020, BEREC will develop in 12 sets of guidelines, including one on the criteria a network has to fulfil to be considered as a “very high capacity network” (VHCN), one to assess the sustainability of the domestic pricing model and an update to the guidelines on net neutrality. Eleven of these derive from the new European Electronic Communications Code. Finally, in 2019 BEREC will be chaired by Jeremey Godfrey (ComReg, Ireland) and chair for 2020 will be Dan Sjöblom (PTS, Sweden). Read more and see documents list here.
