Canadian channel unbundling under fire

A proposal in Canada to unbundle TV channel packages has been criticised by Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, an independent advocacy group. It says that since 2002, when cable companies were given the green light to charge what they wanted for their least costly service, these basic rates have climbed by as much as 96%, almost five times the inflation rate. "Cable monopolies have become expert at fleecing consumers and, left to their own devices are almost certain to take this opportunity to raise their rates yet again.  Any government serious about consumer protection would regulate cable prices," says Friends spokesperson, Ian Morrison. http://bit.ly/1bWKZaR
