Poorer countries losing out on cloud

A lack of access to affordable broadband and data servers in developing countries is severely limiting the scope of cloud computing, according to a report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Many low-income countries rely on mobile broadband that limit the scope for cloud computing because of their low-speed, and access to affordable broadband is especially poor in the least developed countries (LDCs), it says. Developed countries should offer technical and financial help for cloud infrastructure in poorer countries, while developing countries should themselves address legal and regulatory concerns over cloud computing, data protection and cyber crime.
