Thailand talks digital transformation, space and satellite
IIC Thailand Chapter is committed to facilitate discussions on digital ecosystem and digital transformation to the country and Southeast Asian region. The Chapter started the year 2018 by hosting a forum on Building a Safe Online Environment for Children in Bangkok in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Electronic Transactions Development Agency of Thailand (ETDA), and Chulabhorn Royal Academy. The two-day event drew participants from private and public groups around the globe including Google, Facebook, University of Vienna, local universities and civil society groups, to discuss a key theme in making internet a safe place for children. The forum addressed key initiatives in public policy frameworks, private initiatives, and communications literacy that help protect young people and enable them to reap the benefits by the digital transformation. The outcome of the event is consolidated as policy guidelines for the Thai government.
The Chapter is working closely with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society as well as the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commissions (NBTC) on developing a regulation concerning space industry and new breed of satellite services in the age of constellations. The draft law, which looks at holistic view of regulation of space, will be under the parliamentary review by the end of this year. The “space exhibition” is expected to launch in September in Thailand with contributions from the Chapter to showcase new innovations and draw public attention to a changing landscape of space technology. We look forward to engaging discussions and delivering new initiatives in 2018 and years ahead.
