Chuan Beng Wei (Dato')

Dato’ Chuan Beng Wei is an active industry captain and recognised entrepreneur in the telecommunication and the ICT industry with an illustrious career developing the nations ICT industry and actively contributing to various national initiatives.
 
Dato’ Wei’s entrepreneurial journey has been illustrious. He most notably founded REDtone International Bhd in 1996 and successfully listed his company in 2004 and exited in 2015. As the group Managing Director, he led his REDtone team to explore various ideas, evaluate, and execute various businesses locally and internationally over 20 years in the broadband/data services, all kinds of wireless connectivity, IPTV, mobile services, ICT infrastructure, engineering work and development.  REDtone was a founding MSC status company, that has been known to do R&D in the ICT industry. Dato’ Wei and REDtone has been with MSC/MDEC since its inception in 1996 and Communication and Multimedia Commission in 1998 to the present day.
 
Dato’ Wei has served on the board of PIKOM for 10 years from 2000 to 2010, with the last 2 years as Chairman to the organisation. Throughout his service he has provided multiple years input to MITI for trade negotiations and the Ministry of Finance for budget consultation pertaining the ICT industry. He was also member of the National IT Council.

In 1994 to 1995 he was an industry researcher for the formulation of Industrial Masterplan Project 3.

Dato’ Wei has also contributed immensely to the nations higher education system. He served as former private sector advisory committee member to the Ministry of Higher Education. He has been serving the role of CEO faculty member and adjunct professor of UTM and UTHM. He is a trustee for the UTM Endowment Fund and a board member for UTM Space.
 
Dato’ Wei is also a master trainer of professional selling skills and conducts classes as his capacity as adjunct professor.
 
For the continuous professional, leadership and personal development, Dato’ Wei is an active member of YPO, Young President Organisation. He has served in leadership roles Malaysian and region. He is a committee and active participant in the YPO International ‘Technology’ and ‘Doing Business with China’ network. He often openly shares his knowledge and experience as a prolific speaker in industry conferences and TedX talks.
 
At the start of his career, he spent 5 years in Hewlett Packard performing various responsibilities in technical support and customer service for a broad range of systems and network products. He then moved on to major accounts and global accounts management.
 
He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree (honors) in Electrical Engineering from University Technology Malaysia in 1989 and Diploma in Management (Gold Medalist Award Winner) from Malaysia Institute of Management (MIM) in 1995. He also completed an Entrepreneur Development Program from the renowned MIT Sloan School of Management in USA in 2006.
