‘Facebook News’ begins international launch in the UK

News portal will generate ‘tens of millions’ for publishers

The UK will be the first market outside the US for ‘Facebook News’, reports Techcrunch. The portal will curate news stories from hundreds of local and national media organisations, including the Financial Times, Sky News, The Economist, The Guardian and the Telegraph Media Group, as well as ‘lifestyle’ titles like Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Facebook says the aim is to provide a more ‘balanced and dedicated’ mix of news, with top stories and ‘personalised links’ chosen by algorithm. The service goes live this month, with future markets thought to include Brazil, France, Germany and India.
