The Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) has published a consultation paper asking stakeholders to submit their views on charges applied to spectrum sharing, says TeleGeography. Under current rules, operators are permitted to share spectrum provided that they both hold frequencies in that band and circle, with an incremental charge of 0.5% of Gross Revenue. However, the charge assumes that licensees are sharing the entirety of their spectrum band rather than only the ones that are being shared. TRAI is seeking ideas on different methodologies for applying the charge, and views on the potential for a charge to deter spectrum sharing. Read more
