New: March Intermedia now available – see more
Media applications are often considered as one of the most demanding services, as they require huge quantities of network capacity for high bandwidth audiovisual and other mobile sensory streams. In addition, they demand very low latency for truly immersive, responsive and tactile user experiences;1 5G networks are expected to significantly reduce latency and vastly increase capacity for delivering high bandwidth data streams between high densities of people and things at low energy and with high reliability.
Now that the first 5G networks have been launched, the questions about how this new technology will be used will start to be answered, especially in the media sector. JEAN PAUL SIMON identifies likely winners and implications for policymakers.
We give innovators and regulators a forum in which to explore, debate and agree the best policies and regulatory frameworks for widest societal benefit.
