The ACMA (Australian Communications & Media Authority) is an independent Commonwealth statutory authority which regulates communications and media services in Australia. It has taken a number of steps to help industry during their response to the coronavirus pandemic. These include:

  • Extending the time for submissions to the Spectrum Pricing Review.
  • Suspending its planned investigations into Telecommunications Consumer Protections Code compliance attestation rules.
  • Delaying consultation processes for non-urgent matters.
  • Suspending consultation on proposed revisions to NBN consumer experience rules.
  • Implementing deferral or instalment payment arrangements for apparatus licence renewals
  • Suspending its work with regard to the measurement of media diversity and local news under its News Project.
  • Announcing that it will be reconsidering reporting requirements and timeframes for responses to statutory notices so that affected entities can focus on maintaining their services.
