COVID-19: What the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) is doing to help

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland regulates broadcasting in the country.
It has announced a special funding round to help the independent commercial radio sector respond to the need to raise public awareness and understanding of COVID-19, including the risks and public health measures which are being implemented. The funding round will operate under the BAI’s existing Sound & Vision Scheme, and a total of €2.5 million has been made available to support it.
The COVID-19 funding is available to BAI licensed commercial sound broadcasting services only, meeting its criteria. Funding is available to cover costs directly related to the achievement of enhanced public awareness and understanding of the global pandemic.
Future funding rounds of the Sound & Vision Scheme will include a prioritised round exclusively for community radio. An open funding round for commercial and community television broadcasters and public service broadcasters will be opened once funds become available.
Additional measures the BAI has taken include waiving levy payments from the independent radio sector for the first six months of 2020.
