The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is the regulator with the mandate to enforce competition and consumer protection law in Ireland. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the CCPC has created an information hub to keep consumers and businesses up to date with the latest news. Actions taken to help include:

  • Updating the public on how it is working to protect its staff, and how they can contact the CCPC during lockdown, as well as information for businesses on how to make submissions relating to mergers.
  • Providing advice on consumer rights during the pandemic for areas such as travel and online shopping.
  • Warning the public, when necessary, about websites which may not be operating legally.
  • Providing businesses with guidance and reminders that consumer protection law requirements remain in force.
  • Reminding businesses in certain sectors of their obligations to consumers, such as with package holidays.
