ICASA weighs applications for spectrum concessions

After South Africa’s communications regulator, ICASA, invited applications for access to key spectrum bands last week, techcentral reports that 35 applications have been received. The bands will be assigned for the period of the ‘National State of Disaster’, before being auctioned off to mobile operators later this year. South Africa joins a number of other countries, including the US, Ireland and Poland, in releasing additional spectrum to meet demand during the coronavirus pandemic. Read more
