Regulator instructed to assign 5G band to five companies
Malaysia’s communications minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, has directed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to award 700 MHz spectrum individually to Celcom, Digi Telecommunications, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia and Altel Communications, according to Telegeography. Previously the MCMC said it was considering plans to allocate both 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz bands to a single consortium. The new directive makes no mention of 3.5 GHz, and revokes a previous directive which set a fixed price for spectrum. The directive appeared on the MCMC website on 15th May, but the regulatory body has so far made no official announcement, says the website. Read more.
