Increase in activity designed to extract data on Covid-19

After the Australian government’s announcement that is under ‘malicious, state-based’ cyber attack, the finger is pointing at China, says ABC.net. The news site goes on to say that the risks are not new, but that activity has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Australian organisations involved in health, critical infrastructure and essential services are being encouraged to improve their online defences. The Australian Cyber Security Centre advises that compromises could be addressed through software updates, patches or use of two-factor authentication. The attacks are not thought to be highly sophisticated, but their scale and duration points to resources available only to a ‘state-based actor’, says the news site.   Read more
