Indian regulator rejects unfair practice claims against WhatsApp

Digital payments do not amount to market manipulation

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has dismissed a complaint of unfair business practices against WhatsApp, reports the Economic Times. The claims concerned the platform’s digital payment services, alleging that it abused its dominance in internet messaging to manipulate the market for digital payment apps. After considering two relevant markets – messaging apps and payment interfaces, the CCI concluded that there had been no violation of the Competition Act. Read more
