MTN fights declaration as a ‘significant market power’
The CEO of Vodafone Ghana described moves by the country’s regulator, the National Communications Authority, to re-balance Ghana’s telecoms market, reports GhanaWeb. MTN currently dominates the Ghanaian market with 57 per cent and 68 per cent share of voice and data traffic respectively, with Vodafone in a distant second place. The declaration of MTN as a ‘significant market power’ enables the regulator to take steps to halt MTN’s dominance, but the company is fighting the declaration in the Supreme Court. Vodafone offered support for steps to ‘help the consumer, stimulate innovation and promote creativity’.
