Lina Khan and Tim Wu among administration’s latest appointments 

The news that legal academic Lina Khan is set to be appointed a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission is discussed in Wired magazine. Khan rose to attention through her paper on ‘Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox’, and is regarded as a critic of the ‘antitrust establishment’, says the magazine. Meanwhile, Tim Wu’s appointment as special assistant for technology and competition at the National Economic Council is also noted. Professor Wu wrote ‘the Master Switch’, which identified the tendency for new communications technologies to result in monopolies. He is credited with inventing the term ‘net neutrality’. The appointments are seen as evidence of the Biden administration’s willingness to cast ‘a more critical eye over tech’, says the magazine.
