Roundup IIC Industry News July 2022. Rising fibre optic costs place plans for 5G roll-out at risk. Prices have risen from $3.70 in March 2021 to $6.30 per fibre km. A surge in demand for global data services has resulted in shortages.
Helium, a critical component in the manufacture of fibre-optic glass, has also been in short supply. This has added further to costs. The shortages have raised questions over the viability of many countries' infrastructure plans. China, India and Europe are thought to be most affected.
