Mihnea Costoiu is the Rector of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest and the Secretary General of the National Council of Rectors of Romania, positions he has held since 2012. During the period 2001 – 2014, Mihnea Costoiu held several positions within the Ministry of Education of Romania, including Secretary General, Secretary of State, and Delegate Minister for Higher Education and Research.
In 2018, he was elected a member of the Board of Directors of CESAER (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research), and in the period 2020–2021 he held the position of Vice President of the organization. His term on the CESAER Board of Directors continued until 2025. Also in 2017, Mihnea Costoiu became a member of the Board of Directors of the Francophone University Agency (AUF), and since 2021 he was elected a member of the Member Institutions Committee, representing the Central and Eastern Europe region, positions which he held until 2025.
Also, Mihnea Costoiu represents the National Council of Rectors of Romania in the governing bodies of the European University Association (EUA), namely in the Forum of General Secretaries and the association’s Council.
For his remarkable contributions in the field of education, Mihnea Costoiu was awarded in 2004 the National Order “Faithful Service” at the rank of Knight, and in 2024, the National Order “Faithful Service” at the rank of Officer, in recognition of his exceptional results in the intellectual and human formation of young generations and for promoting the quality of Romanian university education.
