Dr Siope Vakataki ‘Ofa is an Economic Affairs Officer in the ICT and Development Section, ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. His current research interest is on telecommunications regulatory reform, international trade, illicit financial flows, and financing sustainable development. He has served for the Government of Tonga, the World Trade Organization, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Dr ‘Ofa graduated from the Crawford School of Economics and Government, the Australian National University. His PhD research focused on the credibility of international trade agreements (World Trade Organization) on telecommunications regulatory reforms in Developing Countries. He is the author of the book, Telecommunications Regulatory Reform in Small Island Developing States: The Impact of WTO’s Telecommunications Commitment (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012, ISBN: 1-4438-3523-42012), several book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles on telecommunications policy and international trade respectively.
