Clive McCoy

Director of Tourism, BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission

Clive McCoy is Director of Tourism and Accounting Officer for the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (“the Board”), a statutory body operating under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development. He was appointed to the role in August 2020 by the Board, after joining the organisation in 2005 and rising through over 15 years of experience in the tourism sector.

Prior to becoming Director, Mr. McCoy held a range of roles within Board, including Product Director and Business Development Manager based in Los Angeles and Miami, before serving as Film Commissioner and Tourism Liaison Officer, where he promoted the BVI as a destination for film and photography projects, most notably the 2020 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Mr. McCoy worked closely with the BVI Government on the territory’s reopening to visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping steer the tourism sector through one of its most challenging periods. Under his leadership, the BVI has since seen a steady post-pandemic recovery, including a 9.9% rise in visitor arrivals through the third quarter of 2024 compared with the prior year, alongside the reopening of hotels like Peter Island Resort and Biras Marina & Resort and the expansion of Bitter End Yacht Club.

Mr. McCoy holds a Master of Science in E-Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California. He is based in Tortola, BVI, and continues to champion the territory’s tourism product — from cultural events like the Emancipation Festival to elevating its culinary and event offerings.

Outside of work, Mr. McCoy is an avid reader with a particular interest in political biography and leadership, though he admits a soft spot for the drama of a good novel too.
