A report in the mainstream news coverage in the US and European Union over the first 100 days of the current American presidency suggests an unprecedented level of negativity.1 The study’s author and noted political scientist Thomas Patterson observes that media prefers to cover the “Washington power game – who’s up and who’s down, who’s getting the better of whom” with a negative bias rather than substantive policy issues.
