The Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (Italian Communications Regulatory Authority – AGCOM) has taken a number of steps to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. These include (with the Government) adopting measures to require electronic communications and ICT operators to do more to assist in the country’s fight against the virus, as part of the ‘Cure Italy Decree’.

The Cure Italy Decree (formally Law Decree No. 18/2020) was enacted on 17 March 2020. Among other provisions, it contains measures relating to electronic communications providers, and ICT public procurement provisions. These include:

  • A requirement that service providers must take all measures to enhance network infrastructure and guarantee continuity of network service.
  • Requirements on service providers to enhance and guarantee uninterrupted access to emergency services.

An overview of the requirements and measures in English can be found here.

More information on what AGCOM is doing to help will be coming soon.
