BT has taken a number of steps to support customers during the course of the pandemic. These include:

  • Working with the public sector to respond quickly to requests for help, and looking to support them through technology, e.g. providing video to allow intensive care patients and their families to communicate from a distance.
  • Working with Public Health England to provide free access to 500 Street Hubs so that the digital screens can be used to promote COVID-19 health advice.
  • Cooperating with the British government and authorities in 180 countries where BT provides services.
  • Providing support to business customers by offering services to make remote working easier, such as call forwarding and short-term upgrades to Enterprise network capacity
  • Issuing updates about the capacity of the network, and reassurance as to its ability to cope with the sudden increased demand.
  • BT’s Openreach engineers are providing connectivity to the NHS Nightingale (field) hospitals which are being constructed to take coronavirus patients.
  • Partnering with broadcaster ITV to show digital skills videos to help people with themes such as taking a business online, or staying productive while working from home.
