Telenor has undertaken a number of steps to help during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:
Working with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health to help track the spread of the coronavirus within the country. To ensure that individual privacy is protected they only count groups of people greater than 20, as it is “very, very hard” to re-identify all individuals in groups larger than this size. Watch a BBC Click video report on this initiative.
Monitoring the situation and ensuring that its networks are secure and can meet customer demand.
Providing advice to customers on how to make the most of their internet connectivity and how to stay safe from cybercrime.
Offering and providing coverage and network capacity at critical locations such as hospitals, relief centres, police stations, key government offices, and providing connectivity for medical practitioners, enforcement personnel, and others working to combat the pandemic.
Exploring mobility data exchange arrangements with health authorities in several markets, including the Nordics, utilising experience gained over five years in Pakistan and Bangladesh combatting dengue fever and malaria. The data provides insight on people movement and is fully anonymised. This can enable estimates of the current and future trajectory of the epidemic, which can inform likely numbers of hospitalisations and ICU occupancy.
