The Broadcasting Commission is the regulator with responsibility for free-to-air television, broadcast radio and subscriber television services in Jamaica. During the COVID-19 pandemic the Broadcasting Commission has:
Communicated official health advice for employers on its social media channels.
Provided the public with advice on misinformation and encouraged consumers to only share coronavirus news from credible sources.
Promoted resources for students from the Ministry of Education on its social media channels.
Highlighted online safety messaging to consumers, advising that the current situation has led to an increase in threats such as malware and viruses.
Promoted online safety messaging to those having to work from home, as well as sharing tips on using technologies such as video conferencing and cloud services.
Promoted digital literacy skills to parents whose children may be spending more time online.
The Broadcasting Commission’s Chairman, Professor Anthony Clayton, has written a number of guest columns for the Jamaica Gleaner on policy options for COVID-19 in Jamaica.
