The Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel (CSA) is France’s regulator for electronic media, including radio and television. It has taken various steps to help during the coronavirus pandemic, which include:

  • Mobilising the audiovisual sector to broadcast public health information messaging.
  • Highlighting the work of other government entities during the period of lockdown, such as the Ministry of Culture’s initiative to make free cultural resources available to those staying home.
  • Stressing that it is ‘business as usual’ in terms of its remit, which it says it intends to focus on delivering. This has included publishing its annual report on the representation of women on TV and in radio.
  • Highlighting the CSA’s inclusion in the advice guide for confined parents, produced by the Secretariat of Equality between women and men.
  • Partnering with the Education and Information Media Liaison Center (CLEMI) to deliver media and information education online for Schools’ Press and Media Week. As part of the Week, more than 130 educational resources are being provided by the media to students and teachers.
