The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) regulates telecommunications and broadcasting in Mexico. It has taken a number of steps to support the entities it regulates, and the consumers they serve, during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:

  • Ensuring that mobile operators will provide free access to official health information for consumers.
  • Suspending work on non-essential areas during the pandemic, to allow all efforts to be focused on critical areas.
  • Advising that consumers would receive health information via text message on their mobile phones.
  • Requesting that state and local authorities make every effort to support telecommunications and broadcasting providers in any way, to enable them to maintain services and make repairs for network resilience.
