The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is reponsible for regulating the communications and multimedia industry in the country. It also regulates the postal sector; the converging telecommunications and broadcasting industries and online activities. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MCMC has:

  • Taken action with the country’s police force to detain individuals accused of using social media to spread disinformation about the coronavirus.
  • Worked with the sectors it regulates to ensure that communications services (networks, customer support etc.) remain uninterrupted; that broadcasting and multimedia platforms can continue to deliver their services; that postal deliveries can safely continue to be made; and that digital transactions to essential service providers are facilitated.

More information on the MCMC’s efforts will be coming soon.
