Australia is set to become one of the first countries to require digital platforms to pay for the content they use, reports Reuters. Domestic media companies complained that tech giants have too strong a grip on advertising, and talks with Facebook and Google had ‘failed to reach an agreement on a voluntary code’. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will now frame a mandatory code of conduct, to include sharing of data, ranking and revenue generated from news.
