Botswana drops plans for mobile number portability. Operators encouraged to focus on digital alternatives.

The plans in Botswana have now been abandoned, six years after they were announced, says telegeography. The Botswana Ministry of Transport and Communications has said that an operator readiness assessment study had shown that plans were not feasible.

Instead, operators were being encouraged to promote ‘over-the-top’ services. The move will be a disappointment to smaller operators expecting to gain market share from larger competitors, says the news site.
