The Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in record demand for video conferencing apps for business and personal use, says the website Techcrunch. Lockdowns and work-from-home policies contributed to business conferencing apps being downloaded a record 62 million times during the week of March 14-21. Much of the growth was from Microsoft Teams and Google’s Hangout Meet, but Zoom topped the charts worldwide in February and March. Social conferencing app Houseparty has also surged in popularity, says the website.
