The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of the FCC has granted access to the lower 45MHz of spectrum in the 5.9Ghz band for 33 wireless ISPs, reports telegeography. The move is in response to the increased traffic resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and is designed to provide support for rural communities in 29 US states. The companies will be allowed to use the spectrum for the next 60 days, says the website.
