The French telecommunications regulator, the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Électroniques et des Postes (Arcep), has opened applications for the sale of 5G frequencies, having announced in December 2019 that it was ready to allocate new licences for spectrum in the 3.4 – 3.8 Ghz band. The government announced at that time that it had accepted Arcep’s recommendations for both the procedure of the sale, and the costs, reported Reuters.
In return for deploying their new network across French territories, operators will be able to buy 50 MHz blocs at a fixed price. France’s Junior Economy Minister, Agnes Pannier-Runacher, said “These 5G coverage commitments are much more ambitious than in other European countries and will in future constitute a strong element of our country’s competitiveness”.
