Update from the IIC President

During these uncertain, profoundly difficult times, we wanted to reach out to you to let you know that the IIC is thinking about you all. We are touched by the generosity shown by a number of our member organisations, who have extended offers to us, with regards to various online options the IIC intends to invest heavily in over the coming months. More of that emphasis on our online information and communication capabilities will be evident over the coming weeks. Never has a sense of community been more crucial as we all stay focused on working through and adapting to current realities.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our new Director General. I am delighted to let you know that Lynn Robinson took up the post of Director General of the International Institute of Communications earlier last week. Lynn has held senior leadership positions in the technology, regulation, accreditation, built environment and dental industries – terrific breadth of experience, which will be a very useful perspective as the remit continues to evolve broader as our membership base broadens. In particular, Lynn has a great deal of experience working in regulatory and industry bodies, including Chambers of Commerce. Her particular skills of change management and stakeholder and political engagement were very evident through the extensive recruitment process.

Lynn says: “I am taking over from an inspiring leader who, over the last 11 years, has been at the centre of all the great things the IIC stands for. I intend to build on that success and ensure that the IIC continues to be a recognised global platform for informing the policy agenda for the telecoms, media and technology sector as we move through the next decade. I very much looking forward to meeting the remarkable members of the IIC during the course of this year – the latter part perhaps!”

We heartily endorse all that Lynn has recognised about Andrea and the IIC more generally, and I’m quite sure Lynn will make an excellent leader of the IIC. Lynn will be in touch with you all shortly to introduce herself and to outline some of the exciting plans she has to ensure a complementary programme roll out, in the absence of our meetings which we have had to postpone, as the IIC team continues to work hard behind the scenes during this unprecedented time.

The IIC is here to support our community during the current turbulence and beyond, as we all navigate our current reality together.

With best wishes,

Chris Chapman
