US broadband act set to commit $94 billion to infrastructure

Legislation designed to encourage universal broadband access

A bill designed to build high-speed broadband in unserved and underserved areas in the US has been introduced in the house and senate, reports telegeography. The ‘Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act’ (AAIA) will authorise $80 billion to deploy high-speed broadband infrastructure, with additional funding for low-interest financing. A new office within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will oversee the spending. Senator Amy Klobuchar said the legislation should ‘bring high-speed internet to every family in America’ and ‘help bridge the digital divide once and for all’.
