GREEN AND DIGITAL TRANSITIONS: GUIDING INDUSTRY TO SUCCEED IN BOTH

A green and digital ‘twin transition’ is underway but can both targets be met? What can the communications industry do to assure future sustainability? Are policies sufficient to achieve the targets, what regulations and structures are needed, and who should pay?

Abstract:
This essay explores the challenges and opportunities of achieving a green and digital twin transition, with a focus on the role of the communications industry. The author shares their personal experience of witnessing the devastating effects of climate change in Australia and reflects on the urgency of taking action. The essay discusses how the communications industry can contribute to reducing its own environmental impact and enhancing the green transition across other sectors and domains. The document also examines the policy implications and the mechanisms that are needed to support a successful twin transition for a future sustainable society.
