The Communications Regulator is appointed by the Governor and is independent of the Falklands Island Government. The Regulator has the responsibility for licensing and regulating telecommunications and broadcasting in the Falkland Islands under the Communications Ordinance (2017) and associated secondary legislation. The post of Communications Regulator was established in September 2017.
The Communications Regulator recognises that the Island’s telecommunications infrastructure and services are paramount to social and economic development. Regulation is essential to protect consumers and to promote long term stability and investment in telecommunications.
